Centerville’s APC Food Pantry has completed construction of its new facility and has now moved all of their operations there.
The new building, located next to the Apostolic Pentecostal Church on Highway 2 West in Centerville, has taken over for the pantry’s previous location, just off the northeast corner of the Centerville Square. The new location officially opened the first week of July.
The APC Food Pantry first opened in 2014 with the help of Walmart, which provided things like coolers to store food and much of the food the organization handed out.
The new building is air conditioned and heated and also has a truck dock so the APC Food Pantry truck can be unladed and parked inside the building.
According to the APC Food Pantry Operation’s Manager Jeremiah Morrow, food is handed out each Friday beginning at 1 p.m. The pantry offers a variety of food, including canned goods, boxed food and refrigerated food.
They have also installed new freezers and stand up coolers at the new location.
Morrow said that the new building’s set up allows for a much easier process when people come in to pick up food. They can move throughout the building with carts and then wheel their items out to their vehicles.
“Before people had to carry stuff or we had to have a volunteer help them,” said Morrow.
Morrow said many people don’t realize that they have moved and may think that they just closed down and they want to make sure that everyone knows they are still open.
Morrow also said that they are always looking for donations of food and money. They receive donations from Walmart and sometimes Aldi, but they do sometimes run out of food. The most helpful items would be canned goods, dry goods and other shelf stable items. Anyone interested in donating can contact Morrow at (641) 895-2618.
“There’s a lot of people that really need this,” said Morrow.
