Do you have surplus veggies? Some spare time?
The Produce for the Pantry program produced over 400 pounds of fresh food from the garden at the Emerson Center and Topsfield’s backyard gardens last year. The produce is given to the Topsfield Food Pantry, the COA, and Haven from Hunger.
Soon, backyard gardeners will find their gardens producing more zucchini, summer squash, cucumbers, tomatoes, peppers, and all sorts of other vegetables than their families and friends could ever use. Produce for the Pantry invites you to share your excess produce so others can enjoy the healthy and delicious bounty of your garden. If you have a CSA share, please think about contributing whatever you can’t use.
Collection baskets are located at the Emerson Center, 9 East Common St., and at Trinity Church, 124 River Rd. Food is collected by Thursday afternoon for delivery on Friday. All contributions are sincerely appreciated. Locally produced produce adds a healthy and affordable supplement to the food already available in local food pantries.
Individuals and groups are welcome to help tend the garden at the Emerson Center – a bit of watering, weeding and harvesting. This can be a fun and rewarding family activity or a quiet respite for friends in a thriving garden – all for a good cause.
