Scouts help food pantry - Independent Tribune

Members of Cub Scout Pack #5 and Boy Scouts Troop #5 help load in groceries for the national Scouting for Food program. These particular scouts, based out of Cold Springs United Methodist Church, helped gather food for the Mount Pleasant Food Pantry, 8615 Park Drive, Mount Pleasant. The pantry is open 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesdays and 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Thursdays. Call 980-621-8634 for more information on the pantry. The pantry will take most edible food donations that are nonperishable and will also take paper products. Last year alone, the organization spent $40,000 on helping those in the community. Harry Lassiter and his wife, Mary Anna Lassiter, opened the pantry in May 2005 and the organization works with 17 churches to help in the community. Harry Lassiter said the pantry averages about 450 people a month.
