The food pantry at the University of North Alabama has empty shelves and students needing a helping hand.
"Feeding the Pride," food pantry gives UNA students free food if they need it.
"This year we've seen an uptick in the use of the food pantry," said UNA Director of Student Engagement Tyler Thompson. "We've had to restock the food pantry about three or four times which is unusual."
They are now down to their last supplies of noodles, peanut butter and some canned goods. The need non-perishable food items like cereal bars, cereal, and microwavable mac and cheese.
"It really takes some of the worry off so these students can focus on why they are here and that's to get a good college education. When you're hungry you don't have that opportunity," said UNA junior Becca Bush.
The food pantry is located in the Guillot University Center, where the old bookstore used to be. Thompson said he believes they are having more students use the food pantry because it's in a better location, and they have been promoting it.
