MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) - November 28 is Giving Tuesday and Northern Michigan University hosted its own fundraiser to celebrate.

Community members were encouraged to donate at the Welcome Center on campus or online.

The Food Pantry accepts food items and toiletries.

Monetary donations can be made online and those donating can designate where the funds should go.

Everything collected goes to the NMU Food Pantry to assist students and staff on campus and the foundation hopes the pantry can give real aid to Northern students.

"I think what Giving Tuesday represents is that they can see that there is a family here at NMU that's behind them," said Assistant Director for Annual Giving with the NMU Foundation Andy HIll. "It's not just them going through their days and getting their education. There's a lot of people who are behind them and want to make their time here a success."

NMU had a goal to collect at least 1,000 food items and had collected more than 900 by late-afternoon.
