NEW HARTFORD — Many families and individuals in Pine Meadow are among the working poor and have difficulty affording basic needs, such as housing, child care, food, health care and transportation. Many face a hard choice: paying the heating bill or buying food and household supplies.

Saint John’s is helping its neighbors by providing the Little Free Pantry, which is located at the church, 51 Church Street in Pine Meadow. There are two Little Free Pantry locations: one is inside the left door of the church and the other is outside the building near the entrance to the office.

Local food pantries are open limited hours during the day and many of those in need have difficulty getting to them during working hours. The Little Free Pantry is open 24 hours a day in a safe place that affords privacy and where someone can come by and get food and other necessities. In addition to food we hope to stock the pantry with items that cannot be purchased with food stamps (SNAP), such as toiletries, cleaning supplies and diapers.

The church welcomes donations of items for stocking the pantry. Donations should be left inside the entrance area of the church.

The members of Saint John’s wants the community to know that “we are here to serve those in need and to feed those who hunger spiritually and physically.”
