HOUGHTON, Mich. (WLUC) - The Keweenaw Holiday Hoopla is planned for early next month.
Keweenaw Young Professionals, Chamber of Commerce, and Economic Development Association use their combined holiday party to support another local nonprofit. Formerly the Keweenaw Business Ball, proceeds from the party benefit Baraga-Houghton-Keweenaw Community Action Food Pantry. Over the past two years the event provided $4 thousand dollars in donations to the pantry.
"A lot of our groups were created with that sense of community, so for us to just realize that it is the holidays, people want to get together and celebrate together. It just makes sense for us to do this event together and work with the people that we have in our community and help to feed our neighbor," said Keweenaw Young Professionals board member Amanda McConnon.
The Hoopla also includes a silent auction to benefit $500 dollar Career and Technical School scholarships. The scholarships will be given to nine local high school students for skilled trade education.
The Continental Fire Company in Houghton donated their upper floor to host the event. The Hoopla is 6:30 to 10 pm December 6th. More information is available at Keweenaw.org.
