Danbury food pantry asks for donations - Danbury News Times

DANBURY — This Thanksgiving season, the Daily Bread Food Pantry distributed food to more than 435 households in the Danbury area.

Now, the food pantry is asking for the community’s help to feed families throughout the year.

The pantry has launched its first annual appeal for donations that will help Daily Bread serve 2,500 local households. The organization, which was started in 1984, also hopes to redesign its pantry to better meet clients’ needs and make more food accessible.

The pantry is open from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Monday and Friday. About 700 to 800 families come to the pantry each month, collecting about 40 pounds of groceries each. This makes it difficult for the pantry to keep its shelves stocked, the organization said.

Volunteers also fear the pantry will not receive critical Federal Emergency Management Agency grants, since most funding could be directed toward hurricane relief.

Individuals can send checks made out to Daily Bread Food Pantry to the organization’s headquarters at 25 West St.
