Robertson County Care Inc. to host open house for new food pantry - Bryan-College Station Eagle

Robertson County Care, Inc. will have an open house and dedication for its new Franklin food pantry from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 2.

The new building -- located at 201 South Calvert St. in Franklin -- replaces a mobile home the organization has used as a food pantry for 18 years. The Franklin Food Pantry has been serving families in need since 1996. Every Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon, volunteers hand out essentials, from frozen meat to fresh eggs, bread to flour, hand soap to toothbrushes, serving about 80 families every month and 2,000 people per year.

To qualify for the food and household health items, those seeking help must have incomes below the federal poverty line -- in 2016, $12,060 for individuals and $24,600 for a family of four -- and live in the Franklin Independent School District.

Robertson County Care Board Member Shellie Lyon said RCCI exceeded its $183,250 donation goal, and even had a bit extra to pay for a parking lot. Lyon said RCCI raised more than $200,000.

Lyon called the new building "truly amazing" and thanked the community for its support.
