Community Action Food Bank - Mobile Produce Pantry (KHGI)

Helping feed a neighbor in need, it's the idea behind the mobile produce pantry.

The Community Action Food Bank, travels across buffalo county bringing their mobile produce pantry to the people who need it, but this week, they are serving Kearney, right out of their own warehouse. They are hoping to feed about 200 families on Thursday.

"There are absolutely no requirements at all," said Kayla Martin, development director at Community Action Partnership of Min Nebraska. "No income verification is needed. Everyone is welcome. And we're hoping to target a lot of the elderly after senior fest today. It gets over at two and we're going to stay open until three so we hope they'll come see us."

The pantry will be set up like an assembly line, where guests can take the food they like and need.

There will be fresh fruit and vegetables including cabbage, watermelon, carrots and potatoes. There will also be frozen meats, baked goods and personal care items available.

"Of course it's first come first serve and we go until we run out of food," said Martin. "So, the last few pantries we have ran out but we didn't run out of customers. So, it's definitely a needed service in the community."

The mobile produce pantry is Thursday. It is in the Community Action Kearney building at the corner of 11th street and B avenue from noon until 3:00 p.m.
