PINCKNEYVILLE -- The Least of the Brethren Food Pantry held a special pantry day offering free food to our nation's front line heroes.
Every week, Least of the Brethren opens its doors to help out families in need. Monday, they gave out free food to veterans and first responders in honor of 9/11.
Remembering what happened September 11, 2001, still leaves Vietnam veteran Robert Mace speechless.
"It was a terrible tragedy. It was, it seemed like, I don't know, it's just hard to say," said Mace.
The Sesser man and his wife Bonnie visited Pinckneyville Monday, after hearing Least of the Brethren ministries would hold a special pantry day for first responders and veterans.
"It's for policemen, firemen. This was a memory, never forget 9/11," said pantry president George Culley.
Culley offered everyone who came in, a box of food with 25 items inside like chicken, beans and cereal. They also went home with milk, juice and potatoes.
"It helps tremendously. We're so thankful to God that it's provided," added Bonnie.
Robert believes the terror attacks, 16-years-ago, helped change the hearts of many Americans.
He says people support first responders and veterans more now, than he's ever seen before.
"It's come a long way," added Robert.
Culley hopes to make this an annual event.
