A Kearney church provides a new opportunity for community members to provide goods for those who may need them.
Volunteers and members of Kearney's Faith United Methodist Church officially opened the congregation's 'Little Free Pantry" with a ribbon cutting on Saturday. A volunteer got the inspiration after seeing the one in Gibbon and wanted to start the project in Kearney.
Volunteers say they want people to feel comfortable using it, and for people to keep paying it forward.
"We're just so excited that people have this to use in the community if they need it," said Little Free Pantry project volunteer Erin Davis. "We have a lot of wonderful food pantries in Kearney but this also serves a different purpose for people who can't get there over work hours or they're already maxed out the number of times they can go so it's just another great alternative."
Kearney's 'Little Free Pantry' was installed in late August and has already been utilized.
People are encouraged to put items in or take advantage of what's in it. Items can also be dropped off at the church in the mornings during the week.
