OKLAHOMA CITY - Six days a week, you’ll find Ms. Marilyn long out in the community serving up hot meals to the homeless.
Her whole life, she's been giving with her whole heart keeping people in her community clothed and fed.
“They give a donation of $5 if they have it, or if they don't I still give it to you,” she said.
Part of her calling is to help prevent and reduce homelessness through advocacy and job placement.
“We [are] feeding them. We putting them to work,” Marilyn said. “We [are] educating them [and] trying to get them to leave the drugs and drop the alcohol. That's my mission.”
Even with all of the good Marilyn is doing in the community, thieves keep targeting her store.
We got word from her friend, Ladarryl, she didn't have the extra cash to repair her building.
We jumped into action to find community sponsors to help Marilyn.
We're teaming up with Tim Lindsey from Central Glass and Mirror to replace Marilyn's window free of charge.
“We're so glad to give a little back to someone who gives so much to the community,” Tim said.
The break-ins at Marilyn’s place have been a chronic problem.
“I'm going to say probably five times they broke through the window and they kicked the door in twice,” she said.
Tim came up with the idea to put bars on the windows, and another community partner, Steve Womble and The Womble Company, wants to buy the supplies to build them.
Friday, Tim and his crew, put in the new window, and it sure does shine, just like Ms. Marilyn.
She said she won't stop until ever last person is off the streets.
“Sometime, we judge people out here before we get to know them, and they are human just like we are,” she said.
