Trick or treat for area pantry - Mount Desert Islander

BAR HARBOR — At least one area youngster will trick or treat for canned goods to be donated to the Bar Harbor Food Pantry this Halloween.

Marshall Brady will pull a wagon while trick or treating in the Ledgelawn Avenue area of Bar Harbor to collect canned goods or other non-perishable food items. In the past two years, the effort has collected over 400 pounds of food, as well as household items and even some cash donations.

“It’s such an easy way to a make a difference in our local community. Halloween is the start of the holiday season and the end of, for many, the money-making season,” a pantry spokesperson said.

“In the next few months, incomes will do down and bills will go up, and many of our neighbors may find themselves needing help. Something as small as a box of pasta or a can of dog food could go a long way.

The food pantry can use more than just food. Items on its wish list include paper goods such as toilet paper, tissues, paper towels, toiletries, diapers, baby food, canned or dry pet food, baking ingredients such as sugar, flour, salt, etc.

The pantry also welcomes the donation of the staple items such as tuna, canned meats, canned fruit, beans, hearty soups, crackers, assorted pastas, pasta sauce, cereal, coffee/tea and condiments.

Along with the collection effort on Halloween, food pantry donations can be left at the Bar Harbor Inn, the Lighthouse Church in Town Hill, or The Screenprintery, 758 Norway Drive.
