CAMANCHE — Event organizers were happy with the turnout for Camanche’s annual poker run that raises money and food to be used for the needy during the holiday season.
Camanche’s annual Pack the Pantry Poker run was held Saturday, with several local establishments participating in the event. The event began at Imperial Lanes in Camanche and traveled later in the day to Hide Inn, Poor House and Jersey’s Bar. Participants ride their bicycles from bar to bar. Event organizer Brenda Waldorf was happy with the turnout at Imperial Lanes, stating it was one of the best turnouts in the event’s 13 years.
“We had about 70 people show up to Imperial Lanes, which is the first of four locations,” Waldorf said. “In the past we have had other people come later throughout the event so we are hopeful we will have even more. We also received a $100 donation, so it has been a success so far.”
In order to participate in the event, community members were asked to donate $5 and two canned goods to go to the Camanche Food Pantry to be used for both the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. Event organizers see this continuing to be a yearly event, citing the strong participation from the Camanche community.
“We will continue to do this every year,” Waldorf said. “The community seems to like it and it really does go to a great cause locally here in Camanche.”
Waldorf said even if community members were not able to make it to the Pack the Pantry event, they can still donate between now and the holidays at the Camanche branch of Clinton National Bank.
