Lexington high school students volunteer at God's Pantry food bank - WKYT
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - The Lafayette High School varsity boys soccer team are helping volunteers at God's Pantry Food Bank in Lexington organize and package food to send out to the pantry's partner agencies.
The food bank serves 50 counties in central and eastern Kentucky.
Head coach Chris Grimm says getting out and helping others is at the core of working well as a team.
"It's kind of emphasis on serving first over thinking about yourself," head coach Chris Grimm said. "Part of that is giving back to the community, giving back to where you live, giving back to others that need help."
Food bank officials say they wouldn't be able to do what they do without the help of volunteers. They say that last year volunteers helped them pack nearly 30 million pounds of food.
