ESCANABA, Mich. (WLUC) - The food pantry at Bay College has found a new and permanent home.

Located inside the Student Center near the bookstore, the food pantry is a place that food-insecure students can go to find food that they need.

Available are items like canned goods, rice, beans, even fresh produce and frozen meats.

Jill Martin, Director of the TRiO program says, this program started when students saw a need for it on campus.

"We saw, before the food pantry was open, and experienced students who would come to class hungry very often and not be well and not be able to perform, so students themselves brought this issue to us," says Martin.

The food pantry is made possible by private donations and sponsorship from Aldi and Feeding America West Michigan.

The pantry is open Monday through Thursday from 3 to 5 p.m. and Friday from 1 to 3 p.m.
