LA CROSSE, Wis (WXOW) – A group of local scouts is making a difference in the community, putting others before themselves.
Ethan Kramer and the rest of Onalaska’s Troop 168 built new produce bins for WAFER, one of La Crosse’s largest food pantries.
26 other scouts from the troop joined Ethan’s project and began building in January. All to help Ethan work towards achieving the highest scout hour, Eagle Scout. To do this, you must plan, develop and lead others in a service project that helps your community.
Ethan chose to help update the look of the food pantry, where he previously had done some volunteering.
“It’s important to me because I know that me and the scouts are building it for a good cause and we’re helping so it looks better, like a grocery store type experience,” said Kramer. “It’s making a difference here at WAFER.”
On top of the produce bins, Ethan and the troop also donated $200 that they raised from family members.
WAFER said that the $200 the scouts raised will provide over 800 meals to shoppers at the pantry. They also hope that people will be more inclined to take fresh and healthy produce out of the new bins.
