You may already be thinking about what to have for lunch or dinner Tuesday night and if so consider yourself lucky because some do not know where their next meal is coming from.
The Quincy Neighborhood Federation, located at 812 Payson Ave, is asking for volunteers to help fill food boxes around town, with non- perishable items including peanut butter, canned foods and snacks.
“We fill them at least two, three times a day and they get swiped out within the next hour or two, especially during the summer time with the kids,” Quincy Neighborhood Federation Activities Coordinator Kristin Austin said. “I mean they have free lunches at some of the schools but some kids can’t make it there and I think these definitely help them, so they don’t go hungry.”
Volunteer Tracy Kiefer said during the summer with school out they notice more people, especially kids taking time out of their day to go to the boxes.
With some families struggling to get by, Kiefer said just donating a few items can make a difference.
If you would like to donate food, you can place non-perishable items inside a box or take your donations to the Quincy Neighborhood Federation.
The three pantries are located at the Quincy Neighborhood Federation Office/Parson Youth Center-812 Payson Ave, Harrison Hills Center- 540 Harrison, 1129 North 6th.
