GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB)-- A north central Florida church is joining the fight to eliminate hunger.

The Gainesville Vineyard Church is asking for the community's help to raise $8,000 for a food pantry to be housed at the church.
Pastor Michael Raburn said the startup cost is $16,000 and the other half will be paid by the church.
“Southeast Gainesville is a food desert,” Raburn said. “Walmart is a good step away from here. The Save-A-Lot is closed. Folks here who don’t have reliable transportation wind up at the Dollar General store buying snack foods that are not very healthy. We think there’s an opportunity here to provide that for the neighborhood on a consistent basis.”
