Power outage forces local food pantry to suspend operations - KWTX

WACO, Texas (KWTX) A power outage that may have resulted from a lightning strike Friday night at Caritas of Waco at 300 South 15th St., forced the nonprofit to suspend food service operations temporarily.

The outage caused refrigerated food to spoil and forced the organization to throw away thousands of pounds of perishable items.

“We were not able to restore power on Friday so as a consequence of that we lost all of our meat products which are always stored in the frozen box (and) we lost a lot of our produce that to be kept in a cooler too,” Executive Director Buddy Edwards said.

The hope is to have everything back up and running by Tuesday.

"I believe we'll be open sometime tomorrow afternoon,” Edwards said.

“We'll be having enough food in operation here at Caritas for us to be able to open our doors probably Tuesday afternoon,” he said.

Case management services continue and residents may still obtain clothing and other services.
