SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Local residents in need enjoyed an Easter dinner at the High School of Commerce in Springfield.
Volunteers from Open Pantry Community Services served hundreds of meals to families Sunday afternoon. The nonprofit served nearly 300 meals to shut-ins and served almost 200-people.
One Springfield resident enjoyed dinner with her sister. She said Sunday night's Easter dinner allowed her to enjoy time with family and friends.
"When you don't have no food at home, it's good to be with your friends down here," Sherri Sullivan told 22News.
The Executive Director of The Open Pantry said the purpose of Sunday's Easter dinner is to create a festive environment and bring the community together.
"The idea is to offer a good meal, a nutritional meal in a safe environment," said Terry Maxey. "For families to bring your kids and for anyone looking for fellowship and a nutritional meal."
The Open Pantry also hosts holiday meals for Thanksgiving and Christmas.
