A new emergency food pantry is open in Jackson.
“This is a partnership with the Mississippi Food Network, (the University of Mississippi Medical Center), Evers Care and the Urban League,” said Beneta Burt, Mississippi Urban League director.

The pantry was created for anyone who doesn’t get enough to eat.
“If people are not fed properly -- and with nutritious meals -- they cannot get healthy, so we are investing in overall health instead of just medicine, but food is medicine,” said Bettina Beech, with the Myrlie Evers Institute.
The pantry is set up at the Mississippi Urban League building near the Jackson Medical Mall. The shelves are filled with nonperishable items, but organizers hope to stock fresh produce at some point.
