Ruby's Pantry guests assist with school supplies - International Falls Journal

Guests at Ruby’s Pop-up Pantry distributions have donated to The Learning Tree, a project organized by the Rotary Club of International Falls and Evangelical Covenant Church.

The Learning Tree serves low income children in grades pre-kindergarten through 12th grade in Koochiching County.

Funds that are donated to the Learning Tree will purchase the school supplies needed for students to start their school year well prepared.

Every Ruby’s Pantry guest that donates $20 American cash at a Ruby’s Pantry food distribution donates $2 dollars of the $20 to the International Falls Benevolence Fund. Upon request, money from the fund is then distributed to nonprofit organizations or groups in the greater International Falls area.

Community members that have attended Ruby’s monthly distributions in the past 37 months have donated $23,000 in response to 30-plus requests to the Benevolence Committee. Committee guidelines for requesting funds can be obtained by calling Backus Community Center at 285-7225.

The next Ruby’s distribution is at 5 p.m. Sept. 10 at Backus Community Center. Anyone who eats qualifies to participate.
