Anderson, Tex. (KBTX) - The Anderson Food Pantry stays busy. There is plenty to do when you're trying to feed hundreds of people each month.
"As of April, we've served 192 families, which is more than 400 individuals spanning five counties," said Melissa Darst, with the Anderson Food Pantry.
That's an increase from the ten to 15 families the operation used to serve when it started three years ago.
The Darst family runs the pantry under the Mission Reclaimed Ministry. They say it's time to expand.
"We're moving because we're out of room," said Darst.
The goal is to call the old Feed Store in Downtown Anderson.
"We want to build out a side building that is going to be insulated, and air conditioned with electricity where we can put our walk in cooler freezer, house our volunteers and be able to roll up the doors to the rest of the space that may not be perfect and at least distribute food out of there," said Darst.
That is phase one of a possible three necessary to make the move. Darst says they're closer now thanks to the $75,000 that was raised at their Feast to Feed gala recently.
Once they're finished, the family's goal is to continue running a place that does more than just distribute meals.
"They like to come here because they feel loved. They don't feel judged. They love the food that they get. They love the company," said Darst.
