The Food Bank for Central and Northeast Missouri plans to relocate its mobile food pantry to the parking lot of the Health Department.
The mobile food pantry is a branch of the Food Bank that helps serve the community with healthy grocery options using its refrigerated truck full of fresh produce, protein and dairy items. It will begin parking in the Columbia/Boone County Public Health and Human Services Department lot at 1005 W. Worley St. starting April 25. The truck will be there from 4 to 6 p.m. on the fourth Wednesday of every month.
"We are excited to partner with the Food Bank to offer an opportunity for people to have healthy food options through the Mobile Pantry," Health Department Director Stephanie Browning said, according to a news release. "Access to healthy food is an important step towards keeping Columbia and Boone County families healthy."
Previously, the mobile pantry made its monthly stops at Indian Hills Park, but the new parking location puts the pantry in a more central and accessible place for those who rely on the Food Bank for healthy groceries, according to the release.
"We are thrilled to team up with the city and county health department to locate this mobile on site," Lindsay Young Lopez, executive director of the Food Bank, said in the release. "Those coming to the monthly pantry have told us they are excited about the new location as well."
The Food Bank's mobile pantry program is consistently on the go, making 14 stops within a 32-county service area each month.
