Midland College students prepare for a delivery from their annual canned food drive benefiting Disciples Food Pantry
The Midland College Student Activities Office is coordinating its annual canned food drive to benefit First Christian Church’s Disciples Food Pantry. Donations are being accepted at various locations on the main campus through Nov. 20.
“We’ve been holding a food drive for over 15 years, and there is always a friendly competition to see which building on campus can donate the most,” student activities coordinator Taneekwa Ross-Hurdle said. “Employees and students participate, then, the MC Golf Team delivers the cans to the Disciples Food Pantry.”
The Disciples Food Pantry at First Christian Church, located at 1301 Louisiana Ave., has been in operation since 1986 and is completely manned by volunteers. More than 250 Permian Basin families utilize the church’s food pantry services each month.
“The donations from Midland College are always so much appreciated,” pantry coordinator Mike Landrum said. “We see so many families struggling to make ends meet in Midland due to the high cost of living. Thanks to the donations from the college, we can provide a little extra something for families during the holiday season.”
