TEWKSBURY — The Tewksbury Knights of Columbus are having their annual Food Drive to benefit the Tewksbury Food Pantry, right in time for Thanksgiving. This is one out of four yearly food drives for the food pantry, which continues to be fueled by the Knights’ dedication to helping those in need in their community.
This year, the food drive will be Saturday, Nov. 18 from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. They’re asking anyone in town to donate food items, like canned soup and veggies, peanut butter and jelly, and other nonperishables. Grand Knight Mike Bello, who’s worked the food drive for the past five years, explained that there are three monthly distributions for all of the donations received.
The reason for this food drive, and for continuing a tradition of supporting the Food Pantry, is simply the incredible need.
“There are families in Tewksbury that have a tough time making ends meet,” Bello shared. “This food drive provides several nice meals for them.”
He urges folks to be willing to donate these nonperishable food items out of an understanding that those in need are all around them.
“They should donate because of the simple fact that they’re helping fellow townspeople,” he continued. “A lot of these people helped others.”
Now it’s time for someone else to help provide for them.
Bello maintained that the Food Pantry is made up of and constantly looking for volunteers.
“The Food Pantry is well run by a dedicated group of volunteers so that people in need get help,” he said.
For those who want to be more involved, they can help to make up the boxes and carry them to each client’s vehicle at any of their monthly distributions.
