CHEYENNE – The opening of the new St. Joseph’s Catholic Church Food Pantry at 206 Van Lennen Ave. will help the church continue to serve hungry people in Laramie County.
The new pantry will open Monday inside a 5,000-square-foot warehouse not far from the church. The new space is significantly larger than the small building that has been home to the pantry for years.
The old pantry was not large enough to serve the increasing needs of the community, according to Father Carl Gallinger of St. Joseph’s.
Three years ago, the pantry provided 800 food bags a month to those in need. Now, 1,800 bags a month are given free to community residents.
The congregation at St. Joseph’s has provided free food bags for nearly 40 years.
To celebrate the additional space, an open house is planned from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Oct. 15 at the new pantry location.
