Milwaukee food pantry supports people impacted by government shutdown - WKOW

MILWAUKEE (WKOW) — A food drive was held Saturday for people in Milwaukee who were impacted by the last government shutdown and are bracing for the possibility of another.

The Hunger Task Force collected food and handed out donations at the drive hosted by El Conquistador newspaper.

The company says it got several calls from people saying they couldn’t feed their families during the last shutdown.

“We saw a need. Food pantries were empty. People were hungry. We got a lot of people calling us, ‘what can you do? Can you help us out?’ And so we figured we had to do something,” said Jose Rodriguez, with the newspaper.

The U.S. government could face another shutdown when the temporary funding fix expires on Friday, February 15.
