ASTORIA, Ore. – A woman organized a food pantry for the families of U.S. Coast Guard members Saturday to support them while the Coast Guard works without receiving paychecks during the partial government shutdown.

More than 100 people visited the Be the Light Food Pantry Saturday.

The food and supplies were donated by community members and local businesses.

The free items included food, diapers, baby food and toiletries.

The event was organized by Stacey Benson, a wife of a U.S. Coast Guard member.

Tuesday was the first day the U.S. Coast Guard did not receive paychecks during the government shutdown.
