JUNEAU — A 43-year-old Waupun man was sentenced to 18 months in prison for stealing money from the Waupun Food Pantry last summer.
Michael J.R. Fiedler was found guilty of burglary of a building or dwelling on Dec. 18.
Fiedler appeared before Dodge County Circuit Court Judge Brian Pfitzinger. Fiedler was given a sentence that was previously imposed and stayed. He must serve 18 months of initial confinement and 36 months of an extended sentence. He must pay $28 of restitution to the Waupun Food Bank and perform 280 hours of community service. He also must undergo an AODA assessment.
According to the criminal complaint, the manager of Waupun Food Pantry, 12 S. Mill St., reported the break-in and said she had a suspect because she set out a trail cam in the food pantry. The manager showed police a photo of Fiedler that showed a “Mom” tattoo on his neck.
The manager said the food pantry was not open at the time when the camera showed Fiedler was there on Aug. 13 at 1:43 a.m. According to the criminal complaint, a desk drawer was missing $28. The manager said that several months ago, they also noticed money missing.
Police spoke to Fiedler, who allegedly said that he went to the food pantry to get food for his children and family. Fiedler said he took items from there in the past and admitted to taking the $28.
