HANCOCK, Mich. (WLUC) - Little Brothers Friends of the Elderly in Hancock asks the community to help stock their empty pantry shelves this Saturday.

Houghton County residents can donate by placing a bag of groceries on the curb. The Lamba Chi Alpha fraternity members will gather bags from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Their goal is to collect 10,000 pounds of food to last almost a full year.

“We're looking to the community to be generous. This is something that we give to our elderly friends in need,” Program Director Carol Korpela said. “It just helps them offset their grocery bill, their utility bills. Prescriptions can be so expensive, so this is something that really helps them.”

Top demand items are tuna, canned ravioli, stuffing, Hamburger Helper, hot cereal and jam.

If a bag is not picked up by 4 p.m., residents can call Little Brothers to make sure it will be picked up. Residents can also bring donations to Little Brothers in Hancock all day Saturday or next week.
