Hopewell-Prince George chapter of United Way helps feed families for Thanksgiving
HOPEWELL — The Hopewell Food Pantry asked for a donation of $500 to purchase turkeys for the holiday season. United Way of Hopewell-Prince George, a partner agency, donated extra funds to help out the food pantry's mission last week.
"The Hopewell Food Pantry appreciates the ongoing support of the United Way, especially at this time of year when we are preparing to provide Thanksgiving holiday meals to our clients," said Dick Commander, chairman of the Hopewell Food Pantry.
The local food pantry provides emergency food to families and individuals in crisis with the mission to improve the quality of life in the Hopewell community. They provide different programs for families, elderly, disabled, and the homeless. Last year a week of food was provided to 4,405 families. A new reading program this year provides a free, new book each month to children and young people. They are also beginning a pilot program for Meals-on-Wheels.
The United Way of Hopewell-Prince George is proud to have had the Food Pantry as a partner agency since 1983. United Way donations support this agency as well as many others serving the community.
United Way's annual Campaign Drive is underway. Donations can be mailed to United Way of Hopewell-Prince George, P. O. Box 394, Hopewell, Va. 23860.
