Open Hands Food Pantry in Royal Oak, which opened its doors in 1982, served about 13,500 people last year and is currently facing a critical shortage of food.
“Due to the ever-increasing cost of food, Open Hands is now unable to keep up with demand for many items...We are in desperate need of certain items in particular, which are becoming too expensive for us to buy from Gleaners,” A statement on the food pantry’s website said.
The pantry serves only Oakland County residents.
