LEWISTON, ID —
A Lewiston elementary school is working to make sure that no family in the LC Valley goes hungry.
Last year, Whitman Elementary School leaders opened a food pantry to help struggling families put food on their table.
The pantry started after a social worker visited a home, and saw that the children had no food to eat.
Since the pantry opened last December, it’s helped feed more than 250 families.
"They literally had nothing, nothing in the fridge, no milk,” said Jennifer Wallace. “There was nothing else in there and so that really touched me and I just knew that we needed to help as a school and also as a community."
School officials say the pantry has been made possible by countless donations from community members.
On October 20th they will hold a one-day food drive at Rosauer’s supermarkets in Lewiston.
