Borderland community members taking part in Ruby’s Pantry distributions are assisting the local community by contributing to the International Falls Ruby’s Pantry Benevolence Fund.
According to Lee Grim, Ruby’s local promotion coordinator, the fund has provided $10,600 in the past 14 distributions to area non-profit organizations.
Donations from the fund to community groups are made possible by the guests who attend Ruby’s Pantry food distributions. Every Ruby’s Pantry guest who donates $20 to receive a share of food at a Ruby’s Pantry food distribution contributes $2 from that amount to the International Falls Ruby’s Pantry Benevolence Fund. Upon request, money from the fund is distributed to organizations or individuals in the greater International Falls area, noted Grim.
Committee guidelines for requesting funds can be obtained by calling Backus Community Center at 285-7225.
Ruby’s Pantry distributions take place the second Monday of every month. It is open to anyone in the USA region and Canada, not only the Falls community.
The next distribution is set for Oct. 11. Registration is at 4:30 p.m. with distribution from 5 to 6:30 at Backus Community Center.
